Cassowary Coast Chapter

Based in Tully with strong ties across Innisfail, Mission Beach and surrounding areas

Supporting Legacy families from coast to cane country

From the lush rainforests and winding rivers to the small towns filled with big-hearted people, the Cassowary Coast Chapter of FNQ Legacy is here to ensure no veteran’s family walks alone.

Our chapter has a long-standing history of local care, led by dedicated Legatees and volunteers who know the region and understand the challenges our families face. Whether it's a listening ear, a helping hand, or practical support—you'll find it here.

MEET THE TEAM

ALEXIS

My name is Alexis, and my connection to Legacy began through my late father, a proud World War II veteran who passed away in 2013. As a beneficiary alongside my mother, I experienced firsthand the support and compassion that Legacy offers to families like ours.

Over time, I felt a strong desire to give back to the organisation that supported us during our time of need. That passion led me to become a volunteer, and in 2017, I became a legatee. Being part of Legacy allows me to honour my father's memory while helping others—something I care deeply about.

I am committed to continuing Legacy’s mission of supporting veterans’ families with compassion and dedication.

KARL

Born in England and raised in Tasmania, Karl joined the Australian Army in 1982, serving for over 30 years. In 2003, he was posted to the Jungle Warfare Centre in Tully, where he fell in love with the region and bought land nearby, calling Far North Queensland home.

After retiring from the Army in 2013, Karl remained committed to service leading the Tully SES and now serving as Secretary of the Tully RSL Sub Branch.

In 2023, he became a Legatee, a role he calls his most fulfilling.

"Supporting the families of veterans means everything to me."

Now enjoying life on his Tully property, Karl continues to give back to those who’ve given so much driven by a deep sense of duty, community, and care.

PATTY

Legacy has been part of Patty’s life since she was 10, after the passing of her father, Claude Strike a Vietnam veteran who also served in Borneo and Malaysia. He was a proud Legatee and RSL member.

As a junior beneficiary, Patty found connection and comfort through Legacy youth camps across Australia.
"Even though our stories were different, we supported each other. I didn’t just make friends I found a family."
In 2016, Legacy supported Patty to travel to Pozieres for the Gallipoli centenary.

"Walking in the footsteps of heroes was deeply emotional. To share that with other junior beneficiaries was something I’ll never forget."

"Legacy shaped the person I am today. It truly does change lives and I’m proud to give back to an organisation that gives our community so much"
